FAQ to "Basics of Textbroker"
How does Textbroker work?
Textbroker is a mediator between writers and content clients. Anybody living in America can register as an author at Textbroker. There are only few exceptions to this which can be looked up in our Terms of Service.
After a short application text you will receive your first quality classification. You can then directly view and accept client orders (OpenOrders). Often there are more than hundreds of orders to choose from. Also, there is the possibility of you specifically being requested by a client. This order type is called a „DirectOrder“. DirectOrders are usually assigned when a client is pleased with an author's previous work, or if an author stands out because of his excellent profile. During any given process Textbroker ensures a most comfortable work flow. This includes: - the technical infrastructure - acquisition of clients - support service - handling the statutory framework - handling of payments - simplified order handling - executing author ratings - copyright control (as far as technically possible) - statistic operations To guarantee a fair evaluation, free of any client's subjective opinion, all texts are rated by our own editorial staff. Clients can also submit a rating, but it is intended rather as a feedback for the author and does not influence the decision of our editorial staff. Your articles are continuously being monitored, and with every submitted text your quality level is revised, assessed or confirmed. The quality of an article ranges from 2 to 5 stars, whereas 2 is the lowest and 5 stars is the highest possible rating. Hereby, your actual quality level is based on the average rating of your last 5 articles. Especially when assigning an OpenOrder where the client addresses all authors of a certain quality level, these classifications can be a very helpful tool for a successful order placement; but also when placing DirectOrders, this criteria can lead to an authors direct selection. A further important difference between OpenOrder and DirectOrder lies within the different payment structures. Basically, prices are calculated per written word in both order variants. Hereby, the client has the option to define what the minimum amount of words should be and what maximum amount of words will be reimbursed. When issuing an OpenOrder, the price per word is based on a fixed tariff chart which is predetermined by Textbroker, and dependent on the clients requested quality level. When issuing a DirectOrder the price per word is determined by the author himself.
What is an OpenOrder?
With an OpenOrder clients have the option to issue an assignment to all our authors at once. Thereby the client can narrow down the group that can access the order by setting a minimal quality level. The quality levels range from 2 to 5, and the price per word hereby is based on the authors quality level. A chart concerning these quality levels can be found under http://www.textbroker.com/en/author-rates.php
If a client for example issues an OpenOrder with a minimum quality level of 4 stars, the order will only be visible to authors with a rating of 4 or 5 stars. Naturally, each order can be processed only by one single author. As soon as an author reserves a text for himself, it is no longer displayed in the order-pool.
What is a DirectOrder?
A DirectOrder offers our clients the possibility to assign their orders directly to one single author. The advantage for you as an author is that the „price per word“ is not bound to any chart but is determined by whatever you considered fair. The minimum price per word for an OpenOrder is 0.015 USD. Furthermore, you have the option to assign different rates to each client.
The best way to receive DirectOrders is to write OpenOrders and thereby convincing clients of your skills so that in the future they will assign their projects directly to you.
How is the final price calculated for a DirectOrder?
Basically the clients final price for a DirectOrder is calculated by the authors rate plus a 25% Textbroker commission. For Example: If your price per word is 0.02 USD then the clients final price would be 0.025 dollars per word. (0.02 USD + 25% Textbroker commission). Additionally there is a flat rate of 0.30 USD per order to be payed by the client to Textbroker for DirectOrders as well as for OpenOrders.
These fees only are shown on the clients page. You will always be reimbursed the full amount of the agreed price. Should you be negotiating a special tariff with a client (the clients final price per word) it is vital for you to keep in mind what components the final price consists of so that you can calculate the correct tariff according to your adjustments.
According to what criteria are texts evaluated?
Our criteria for rating texts are:
- spelling - grammar - content - style - body - phrasing - punctuation On principle many spelling errors can be avoided by having a word processing software spell check the concerning text. Also, Google offers the software „Google Toolbar“ as a free download which has the function of spell checking texts directly in the Textbroker browser window. Yet these programs can not be seen as a universal remedy. Grammatical, stylistic or contextual mistakes can not be avoided by such programs. Therefore always proofread your texts and if possible use a dictionary to achieve a best possible rating.
How is my quality level calculated?
Your quality level is based on the average rating of your last 5 texts. These last 5 ratings can be viewed in your authors account by clicking on the button „rating“. A small pop up window will appear where the basis of evaluation is broken down for better transparency.
In what situations will I be informed by e-mail?
You will be informed by e-mail in every important situation. Such as:
- receiving a DirectOrder - a client requests a revision of an article - Textbroker detects an infringement of copyright - refusal of an article by a client or Textbroker - acceptance of an article by a client - rating of an article by Textbroker - receiving a message via the Textbroker messaging system |
