Increase Your Income With Teams

Textbroker’s TeamOrders may seem like a hassle, but author globalgal shows you how she makes Teams work for her.

Applying for Teams is a surefire way to increase your income at Textbroker. When I first started writing for Textbroker as an L4 author, it took all day for me to reach my daily goal of $100. Writing for Teams, I can make $100 in five hours and often less. Currently, I’m on over 120 Teams and very rarely need to take an article from the OpenOrder pool.

Some Teams are industry specific, but don’t let that stop you from applying. If the Team requires an article that is industry specific, take the time to do the research and write up a good sample article. Although it will take time, it pays off in the long run. I’ve done this for several Team applications and consequently was accepted to a Team that paid nearly 6 cents per word!

Of course, there will be Teams for which you apply and never hear back. Although it’s frustrating, there are just as many Team applications where you will get a response. I apply for Teams every day, which keeps the work flowing for me. Some Teams won’t post any articles, some will post many, and others die out over time. Applying every day will keep your author’s cup full.

Often, Teams require specific knowledge about a topic. After writing several articles, you’ll get to know the terminology and workings of the industry. For example, learning about the types of HVAC products like geothermal systems provides the foundation of knowledge for the writing of similar topics on geothermal systems required for a Team. As a result, I’ve been able to compose an article in less time. I can write a 500 word article in 30 minutes based on previous knowledge. Better yet, many of the Teams I write for pay well over 2 cents per word.

You’ll even find that a client who runs one Team will create others. If they like your work, you’ll get a special invitation to join that Team. This has happened to me. The third Team that one client created paid a little over 6 cents per word. I was able to make $400 in one day and $300 the next day. This was an industry-specific Team that I had written many other articles for, and because I had written many other articles for this client about the topic, I was well versed in it and could write about it more quickly.

Teams can also be a gateway to DirectOrders. While I only average about 20 DirectOrders a month, more than half of my DirectOrder clients come from writing for their Teams. Often, my Direct Order rate is higher than what the Team paid.

If you read the author’s forum, then you already know to start applying for Teams at the bottom of the casting call list. These are the clients that are likely to currently post work. Just remember to work on your Team applications every day, and your income will begin to grow. When I first started with Textbroker as an L4 author, I struggled to make $350 a week. With Teams, I can comfortably make $500 to $750 a week. Now, that’s money you can take to the bank!

What about parentheticals?  Does the parenthetical rule trump the other rules?

Also, I read in the forum that there is a comma tutorial video available via the blog, but I cannot access the blog at all

Thank you, Jon. Commas are treated much differently than when I was a student. It has taken some adjustment to toss dinosaur-age rules out the window. However, your cheat sheet may make a handy mnemonic.

Again, thank you for sharing.

Oh my, this has to be the greatest thing I've read in a long time.  I'm not entirely sure how I ended up on this post, but if this was written by some real editors here, I am glad I did.  Most of the time, I sit and imagine stuffy nerds with no sense of humor…  Sorry, but it is the truth.

Thank you for the laughs and the information.

This is good to know. I didn't know I could be on so many teams at the same time.

I think a better introduction into the Proof Reading test would make the author more prepared. It took me and the Stylebook to work half of the way down the page before understanding the process and I still scored only a 40%.

Are your test questions based on an arbitrary consensus among TB staffers or are they from the Stylebook or some other accepted standard? I find it hard to believe that I answered 60% of the questions wrong.

Just saying.
